They’ve improved the backside design of the knob so it doesn’t break at the shaft-flat; is now solid instead of the original “material-saving-cheaper” design with the 4-ribs that would fail at the corner of the flat (over-stressed!).For one knob though the minimum shipping cost was more than the knob. Boo!

I was told the wrong part # to order The knob I needed was an older one which is being shipped to me. I will see if this works out on my heat lamp timer switch. The newer knob is more shallow and of a little less circumfrance then the one I need.The person I talked to about this issue was very pleasant and understood the issue. She said she would see that the right part got out to me. I am awaiting it.

The control knob on my whole house fan broke and I assumed it would be easy to find a replacement at my local hardware store, but it surely wasn't. Flawed design/materials

The reason I had to buy these is because people that use my fan timer keep breaking the turn-knob! The piece coming out of the timer is metal, and this knob that fits over the metal piece is brittle plastic. Any force that is used on the knob to turn the fan on cracks the knob. So I just bought 4 knobs, which might take me to the end of the year:)

The replacement knob for my Intermatic Timer arrived as promised. The hole in the replacement knob is slightly smaller that the shaft that it is supposed to fit on. As a result, I cannot seat the knob on the shaft completely. I am afraid that I will break the replacement also. I bought two knobs because of the shipping costs. I now have a spare. I also have four other Intermatic timers in my house, some for over 20 years, and no knobs have broken on them.

I have used Intermatic products for decades. Great stuff all the way around. I recently replaced some indoor timers. The plastic knob was defective and cracked after less than two years. The old ones were 20 years old.
You should stand behind your products and not have charged me for a replacement and shipping. Very poor customer service model.

I have three intermatic timers in my home to run bathroom fans. I had to replace the knobs in each of them as the attachment point of the back of the plastic knob failed on all three. I was hoping to replace them with metal knobs, but I could only find plastic knob replacements. They work fine, but I feel that I will be replacing the knobs again. These will have to do, so I gave them 3 stars.

The knob broke for the Woods timer that controls one of the bathroom fans in my house. I couldn't find a website or contact info anywhere online for Woods so I bought an Intermatic knob instead and it fits great. The molded shape of the Intermatic knob is much better made then the orginal knob from Woods. If the post coming out of your wall timer has a flat top and rounded underside these replacement knobs from Intermatic will work great as a replacement.

I had to order two knobs to replace the two that broke for our bathroom fan timers. Our home is brand new, and I already replaced one knob that the builder gave me. It is garbage made in China, and these knobs will break also as will the other two that have yet to break. Ordering was fine and shipping was decent, but paying $5.52 for two knobs worth maybe 2 cents apiece is a joke. I will probably order one more time, but then eventually remove timers and replace with a regular switch.

The knob is fine in appearance and color, but, the plastic simply does not hold up in use against the metal prong on which it is placed. You should really reinforce the inside receptacle of this knob with a metal ring/surround, or something. The plastic invariably fails, splits, cracks, etc., requiring continual replacement.

Since installing this timer several years ago, I've had to replace the knob on it three times due to a poorly designed part. Under normal use, every knob cracks at the same spot. And now the company requires the customer to pay to get a replacement. If the knob would just be redesigned to handle the stress, this wouldn't be a repeated issue for the customer.

The knob looks fine with regard to appearance. the problem is that it is far too tight in the timer stem and I thought it would damage the timer because of the force required to install the knob. As it is I was unable to push the knob all the way onto the stem, leaving a large gap.

This knob is the new cheaper version. We have several of these timers in our house and when the shaft hole on the back of one of the knobs broke out, I compared it to a knob we have on an older switch and observed that the older design has a solid back that couldn't break out like the newer one did. Unfortunately the older design isn't made anymore. Intermatic seems to have saved a few cents on plastic so that now their customers have to purchase high priced replacement parts that are inferior to the old ones. I also didn't appreciate being charged more for shipping than the cost of the item only to find that I was paying for the new knob to be shipped by UPS in a box large enough to hold three or four of the whole switches instead of them pacing the knob is a small padded envelope and dropped in the mail.

After having the fan installed for about 8 months the original knob broke in two. I had some difficulties installing it originally so I think the plastic was weakened.
I also purchased some of the 146MT579 and 146MT577 after reading that the plastic knobs don't hold up well and I might need some extras. Those knobs are not replacements however for the FD series as they have a large space underneath before the socket of the knob can reach the spindle, if that makes sense.

These Intermatic plastic knobs appear to be a weak feature of this timer since we've broken more than one over the course of regular use. However, the replacements did the trick.
It was cheaper to buy a few replacements rather than installing a new switch from another manufacturer.

This is the third knob I have gone through since purchasing the wind up timer. The first knob (that came with the unit) fit properly and had a metal band where it joins with the timer. These do not, and will only last maybe a year or so. Also, they are not indexed properly (point wrong direction). The timers use a non-standard size, so this is your only choice, however. It will were me, I would re-design these with a metal band so they would last longer, plus get the indexing correct.

This replacement dial does "match" the original dial in size and color. However, it barely fit on the shaft. My concern is it is going to do the same thing as the first one did, crack and split with short term use. Since it is solid plastic I am wary of it's longevity. I purchased several if these replacement dials just in case. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Would like to have had a product with a metal core to match the metal shaft and thus increase durability.

No complaints that the original knob lasted only 12 years!!! I spent over an hour at various hardware outlets trying to find a generic knob. No luck. An observant clerk said " that's Intermatic. Check the website, here's the address. " 15 minutes later the knob was ordered and on its way. Arrived in a reasonable time and the timer is back in daily action. 60 minute spring timer over 12 years of daily operation. That's product I like.

Intermatic needs to redesign this know so that it will not crack in use. I bought four, knowing that the new ones will crack as the first did. Planning on filling the "voids" in the back with epoxy on one, to see if that will permanently fix the problem. Come on Intermatic, you can do better. Mine is not the first post to say this, I read a bunch of them posted here before ordering. I own several intermatic products and they work well, but whoever "Value-Engineered" this knob did the job to well. A little more material in the right spots, ie no moulding voids, would elimate the ongoing problem. Not as easy to manufacture, I realize, but long lasting products make for happy, and repeat, customers.... Good luck all...

Extremely Poor Design

Based on the many other reviews, and my own experience, this product has a severe design flaw. I'm on my 2nd broken one now, and have only had the timer for 5 years. It's impossible to use them wrong - you turn them - it's simple. I sell knobs for guitars - nearly identical - and they always have either a set screw, or metal retainer inside the hole that prevents the plastic from being stressed, and thus - cracking. The knobs Intermatic supplies will keep breaking forever since there is no set screw or metal retainer. I recommend you buy lots of them - enough to last the life of the timer - or find another brand of timer and replace it entirely before you spend more than a new timer would cost on the shipping costs for this part.
Good but annoyed that knob broke in the first place

This knob fits our timer. I was hesitant to push too hard, so it's not flush to the timer plate, like the way it was before. This knob was the best price I could find, was easy to order, and arrived in a timely manner. The knobs (I bought two) were nestled in a lot of padding in a sizable box. I told my spouse that if they spent as much time and care in designing the knob as they did with packing the replacements to mail to me, the knob wouldn't have broken in the first place.

The plastic turn knob is a simple part, but without it, the timer switch is relatively useless. We managed to do without a knob for one light for about ten days, but found ourselves missing the light and recognized the need for a replacement knob. We placed an order for the one we needed replaced, plus some spares to have on hand (just in case). We were pleasantly surprised to find that the parts & shipping were both very affordable, and the shipment was received much quicker than we had anticipated. Since we have more than one switch, we were glad to have some spare knobs on hand if/when the same issue develops again.

Replacement fan control knob is WHITE rather than IVORY--confusion could be avioded with a text note of color in item description, particularily when NO PHOTO is shown. Color is acceptable in my application--not wveryone would be pleased. Otherwise great parts service!

Replaced twice in 1.5 years

I am not sure how one can rate this is a great product...I have had to replace the original knob and another one after only 1.5 years and my wife and I don't abuse it in our master shower.
It seems like Intermatic has some problems with the quality of the plastic they are using. If they were focused on customer service, they would be replacing these for free with free shipping and fixing root problem!

These made of plastic break too often. Need to be made of better plastic or better yet, metal. We have had to replace four knobs in five years. Can get replacements from factory not in the store. Would be handy to get them in the store.

The product is just what I needed a $1.34 timer knob. I bought 2 knobs and the shipping was over $9.00. Really! I never would have spent the money but it was hard to find this knob locally...so I guess that's why they can charge such a high shipping price. Otherwise service was great.

Knob fits tight but does the job. Couldn't push it all the way flush but it really doesn;t matter. Better than replacing the whole unit.

The product was great and came quickly but the postage was very expensive for a small, low cost item. You need an alternative shipping option that is cheaper.

So happy to find a replacement knob for this spring driven timer. It was a great price, too. However, shipping it UPS was very costly!! I'd suggest USPS and saving a lot of money. The knob was $1.35; shipping over $9.00.

This replacement knob was identical to the original, although a little difficult to install due to a very tight fit. Shipping cost is excessive. They could pop one in a small padded envelope and mail it first class for a lot less.

I didn't make a big purchase, just four plastic knobs for my whole house fan timer, but the experience was great and the price was extremely fair. I found the knobs on another site for $5 a piece, and almost bought them as I thought I had no choice.
